Visualisation of the field of study at IS STAG

The aim of the study is to provide students with quality education in the field of artistic activity, good orientation in the issue of visual arts and culture, and also basic knowledge in the field of visual arts and experience with the world of art education. The student naturally learns about and confronts current tendencies and trends in visual arts through the authentic experience of his or her own artwork, which is the prerequisite for his or her ability to and skill for transmitting art values to the general public. Visual Arts for Helping Professions

Length of study: 3 years

Type of study: Full-time

Visualisation of the field of study at IS STAG

What are helping professions? They are various areas that are characterised by professional help to other people, that is areas where another person is the subject and objective of one’s work. Helping professions include jobs in education, health care and in the social area.

Our three-year bachelor’s degree specialises in educating students for work with people with specific educational needs in the field of visual arts and leisure activities.

The study is based on a balanced combination of  visual arts, special education and psychology.

Students receive art-oriented education (drawing, painting, spatial creation, photography, video and new media, interdisciplinary creation) that helps them master a wide range of art resources and materials and use them to create projects for a specific group.

They attend seminars focusing on areas overlapping between art, education and therapy, i.e. courses of art therapy, artefiletics, outsider art, psychomotor therapy and relaxation techniques.

At the theoretical level, the visual arts study provides basic orientation in the field of art history and contemporary visual culture, and the basics of the visual arts didactics.

The area of special education and psychology supplements the students’ education with specific knowledge and skills that allow them to work with individual specific groups, such as people with special educational needs, adult education, or inclusive education.

Starting in the second year, students complete professional practical experience that lets them get to know specific institutions and gradually get involved in their operation up to individually managed work with students or clients.
